About Us
Our mission is to make sure every Oklahoman has access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of their location
Improving Communication Between the Big and Small
Our mission is to provide high-quality healthcare to underserved communities. In order to achieve this goal, it is important for us to build strong relationships with rural hospitals in our region. By working together, we can ensure that patients receive the care they need, whether they are located in the city or in a rural area.
Our why
Recurring health problems require patients to seek treatment at larger institutions, commonly outside their home town. Obtaining and transferring medical records between rural and urban hospitals creates an undue burden of work for nurses and health record managers. This current system is affecting both the efficacy and safety of the patient care. Our team is passionate about reducing these disparities for patients and creating new strategies to aid hospital communication.
The problem
The exchange of patient health records between rural hospitals and urban, major-medical centers is a flawed, inefficient system that contributes to harms such as longer waiting times for complex care, reduced patient satisfaction, and increased chances of patient harm including double radiation exposure and polydrug dosing. Communication disparities between hospitals lead to reduced financial revenue, lower patient satisfaction, and decreased staff well-being.
The team
We are comprised of OU College of Medicine students and pre-medical students. Led by Dr. Dee Wu, PhD, we strive to change the way rural and urban medical centers interact in a way that would benefit patients, staff, and create future strategies for streamlining rural healthcare delivery.
